Sierra Negra Tour
Sierra Negra, probably the oldest of the Isabela volcanoes, has a huge summit caldera with a diameter of 10km, which can be admired on the hike on the crater rim. The tour begins with a hotel pick-up and a drive to the vicinity of the village of Santo Tomás, from where the 16km long walk begins. The path mainly leads through guava undergrowth and later over lava rock. The paths are quite wide and not too steep. Everyone wishes for a cloud-free sky on this tour in order to be able to enjoy the fantastic view on the crater, but the sun can be very intense on this hike, which is why it is strongly recommended to bring appropriate sun protection and enough water.
The tour includes transport from the hotel to the starting point of the hike and back, a bilingual naturalist guide of the Galápagos National Park, and snacks. The tour can be booked as a group tour with a maximum of 16 participants, or as a private tour with a private guide and transport. It´s a full day tour starting around 8 AM and returning approx. 3 PM in the afternoon. With a private guide, the start time is flexible.
